Parents from the villages of Zumbul and Kiknou, in Xanthi’s Miki Municipality, two villages which had their schools closed carried out a demonstration about transportation. The FEP Party supported the demonstration organised by the students’ parents.
In the early hours on Tuesday 27th September 2016, parents from students from both villages launched their demonstration in front of the Miki Municipal building. The parents stated that because of the closure of schools in these villages children now go to primary school in neighbouring villages and that there are problems with the transportation of students. Therefore, the parents occupied the municipal building in order to solve the problem.
In order to show support, the Friendship Equality and Peace Party’s Vice President Ozan Ahmetoglu, CEC Members Ali Salihoglu and Mustafa Sargo and President Advisor Bahri Belco were also present. FEP Party Vice President Ozan Ahmetoglu in consultation with the parents expressed the support of the FEP Party in their democratic struggle. He further added that the FEP Party is against the closure of schools and it is important schools stay open. Ahmetolgu continued in stating that closure of schools without solving the issue of transportation is completely wrong and decisions to close schools should be revoked as in the case of Ziloti Minority primary school. Ahmetoglu also emphasised that in order to avoid problems for students and parents the demands of parents and the educational community should be considered, thus keeping schools open would be the best solution.
