Democracy Shame by Union of Centrists Party Leader Leventis
20.01.2017-12:12
Press Release by FEP Party President Mustafa Ali Cavus.
On Tuesday 17th 2017, during an interview on the first channel of Greek State Radio, Union of Centrists Party Leader Vasilis Leventis was asked whether he would support the reduction of the election threshold to 2%. His answer in relation to this was both meaningful and a shame for democracy.
Leventis, stated that he is against the reduction to 2% of the threshold, as there is a danger that the party of the Muslims, meaning the FEP Party, will get into parliament. Such is not acceptable and he has spoken about the matter with Cipras and Mitcotakis. I am having a hard time in understanding why Union of Centrists Leader Leventis is so afraid of the FEP Party, as an official political party from entering parliament and why he has made anti-democratic discourse. Are they so scared of FEP Party representatives voicing the injustices suffered by the minority for many years and facing the facts in national assembly? We love our country and want to serve our country. We want to feel that we are first class citizens of this country and want as an internationally recognised minority our entitled rights arising from the Lausanne Treaty. In the event of a political party passing the threshold it is their right to enter parliament, also a requirement of democracy and law. Thos who want to deprive us of this legal right are people who have lost their belief in democracy. I share with the public that I find Leventis’s statement racist. Regards, Mustafa Ali Cavus FEP Party President Share
