CONDEMNATION - ANOTHER BLOW TO OUR FREEDOM OF BELIEF AND RELIGION!
02.03.2017-12:34
Western Thrace Muslim Turkish minority members who migrated from Western Thrace for economic reasons and settled in the province of Alexandria (Gida) of Veria (Karafere) established an association and in accordance with its statute opened a masjid.
We have learned that it has been closed with a police order. To open a masjid to worship and to teach children the Qur’an besides being a minority right is a human right. As the FEP Party we strongly condemn this backward treatment of these people. We demand that the right and freedom to worship and open a masjid, both a minority and human right is promptly returned to the Imathia Muslims Education, Culture and Sports Association.
We do not accept the State’s interference to our freedom of belief and expect respect for our freedom of belief. Ancestral mosques in Rhodes have their doors chained, construction of minarets is restricted, laws such as the ‘240 Imam Law’ imposes appointed imams to mosques which the minority does not and will not accepts, the minority’s elected muftis are referred to as ‘ pirate muftis’ and the minority’s will is ridiculed. In short, our freedom of belief is undermined and the Treaty of Lausanne ignored, this is not the way to respect minority and human rights. As the FEP Party, we share with the public that we expect respect to our freedom of belief in favour of the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority from the international Lausanne Treaty and that restrictions and prohibitions are terminated.
