GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO MAKE DECISIONS WITHOUT ENTERING INTO A DIALOGUE WITH THE MINORITY
29.11.2017-10:02
We observe that an atmosphere of dialogue related with Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority’s problems has not been established yet which has been expected and demanded for many years.
It is obvious that the international Lausanne Treaty, which is the basic text guaranteeing the acquired rights of the Western Thrace Turks, is not implemented by our country Greece. As a result, we identify with sadness that the government continues to make decisions without entering into the dialogue with the minority.
We would like to express, that denying the national identity of the minority by the state and ignoring other rights of Treaty of Lausanne and disregarding it will result in serious outcomes. In the last few weeks a regulation which was an anti-democratic and against the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Convention on Human Rights was brought to the parliament and enacted. The law, which was about the implementation of ECHR Decisions in Greece related with minority associations and cases which had been won at ECHR, but with the interventions which were made during the General Assembly meetings became to an antidemocratic point and to a status that not to be implemented the ECHR decisions. In this regard the decisions continued a few weeks later. This time, Elected Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete and İmam of the Glafky villlage Erkan Azizoglu, were judged in Thessaloniki and sentenced to imprisonment with the allegation of "usurpation of office". Thus, a situation in which Greece was judged and found guilty in the ECHR years ago ,was repeated in domestic law. We think that, insisting on the law decisions which are contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights with regard to our minority, is rooted from our country’s prejudicial, deliberate and wrong minority politics. We want to emphasize once again that the laws and judicial decisions that are made arising from Treaty of Lausanne ,are open and wrong to be questioned. We want to express that, in the atmosphere where Western Thrace Turkish Minority is waiting answers for their right expectations ,the Prime Minister Aleksis Cipras who visited our region , his explanation related with our minority was far away from expectations. We have waited solutions for the problems and answers for the right expectations for years but once more we witness that the government applies politics according to its own agenda. Without being solved Muftiate problem, it is unacceptable to be disposed one sided Islamic law which had been guaranteed under international agreements. The government has not given any positive answers for the right expectations and problems of our minority and this cause to be lost the confidence atmosphere between the minority and government. On the other side we want to emphasize that the Prime Minister’s explanations on kindergartens is out of minority’s demands and expectations. The Prime Minister on his explanations claimed that the minority is equal with other citizens, it is difficult to give meaning why Western Thrace Turkish Minority is dependent upon Foreign Affairs. By the way we want to refer to a acurrent topic related with the muftiate foundation. In the past days the duty of transferring Komotini Muftiate’s archieves on a digital atmosphere was given to people who have negative views as “enemies” towards Western Thrace Turks, minority foundations and their representatives. This created question marks in the minds. Everyone has to be sensitive and careful on the subject of relics which have been inherited from our ancestors. FEP Party Share
