WE EXPECT IMMEDIATE MEASURES TO BE TAKEN FOR THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE WESTERN THRACE MUSLIM TURKISH MINORITY WHICH IS CONFIRMED AS THE POOREST REGION OF THE COUNTRY
30.01.2018-13:10
The hard fact that closely related to the Western Thrace region and the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority of 150 thousand people was stated by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTA) in the past few days.
According to the statement given by the institution; in our country –Greece- the regional units with the lowest per capita income are Rhodope and Xanthi. In other words, the Western Thrace region where most Western Thrace Turks live remains the poorest region of Greece. The fact that the most undeveloped region within the European Union is Western Thrace, has once again confirmed by the statistical authority of the country.
It is an unquestionable fact that the economical pressures and discrimination against Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Community which applied in the past and which we still feel the remains of them, play a great role and have a share in shaping these statements. Another hard truth is; Western Thrace Turkish Minority members are in the end of the per capita income list. The oppression and discrimination against the minority left the entire region economically underdeveloped, not just the Western Thrace Turks. Another negative consequence of anti-democratic oppression and discrimination policies against the Western Thrace Turkish minority for years is the unemployment rate among the people in the region, especially the minority. The unemployment and low income levels, which have reached terrible proportions in the regions within Evros regional unit where the most minority people live, as well as the Rhodope and Xanthi regional unit, which have the lowest national income ratio, causes a huge migration leaving our villages empty. Our young people are forced to leave their villages for work, for food. Governments that have served until today have not entered into the least effort to remove the economic division against the minority even in the period when the "Equality Before the Law" policy was applied which declared at the beginning of the 1990s. A serious and comprehensive application to improve the economic situation of the minority has not been put into practice. And this is the result of this apathy and economic discrimination. As FEP Party we want to state that it is essential that the government has immediately to pass an action plan in order the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority, which has been subjected to antidemocratic injustices, oppression and discrimination for years, to be freed from the economic conditions of third world countries and to give an end our minority being the poorest social segment of our country –Greece-. Again we would like to state that we are expecting immediate measurements for correction of the economic conditions of the minority, which has been subjected to great injustices for years and which has a big gap with other community groups. It is shameful that this has not been done so far and that it has once again been confirmed by the statistical authority. FEP Party Share
