OTHERISING AND TARGETING THE MOUSLIMS LIVING IN GREECE IS WORRYING
08.05.2018-11:54
We are anxiously observing that Muslims living in Greece have been increasingly exposed to discrimination, racist attacks and affronted in recent years.
The fact that serious measures are not taken to prevent these racist attacks and that judicial prosecutions are not implemented as they should be, make the situation even worse.
In this framework we would like to emphasize that we will closely monitor the court process that began in the past days with regard to threatening letters to non-governmental organizations established by Muslim immigrants living in the capital Athens in 2003. As will be remembered, threatening letters, including even death threats, were sent to the Muslim Union of Greece and other Muslim associations in the country, and Muslims living in our country were clearly targeted. We want to believe that the judicial process related to this worrying anti-democratic situation will result as soon as possible and as it needed in a way that fulfill human and minority rights. We would like to publicly share that we will closely monitor the judicial process and that we will be in touch with the threatened nongovernmental organizations and with their executives. We are observing that in our country which we are citizens of it, Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority and the Muslims living around the country especially in the capital, Athens, have been otherised and are exposed to Islamophobic attacks in recent years. We expect government authorities to take initiative as soon as possible to prevent this worrying process. FEP Party Share
