Alfonsi:"Investigate those who committed crimes against the Turkish minority in Greece"
The public prosecutor of the Greek city of Komotini/Gumulcine has started a preliminary investigation against Mustafa Ali Cavus, the president of EFA member party DEB. The reason behind this development seems to be the demonstration organized by DEB on July 24th, where thousands of members of Greece's Turkish minority demanded that Greece finally respects their human rights when in comes to education, religion, property and political activity.
EFA President Francois Alfonsi made the following statement on the case: “The European Free Alliance is extremely concerned about the preliminary investigation the public prosecutor of Komotini has started against the president of our member party DEB Mustafa Ali Cavus. It is difficult to comprehend how such an investigation could even be initiated for a peaceful demonstration DEB has organized last July. EFA was present and the only unlawful act witnessed was the attempt of the Golden Dawn fascists to stop the demonstration. EFA calls upon the public prosecutor and the Greek authorities to intensify their efforts and discover the vandals who destroyed DEB’s offices last December rather than inventing excuses to persecute Turkish minority activists.” Share
